Cori: Insane characters

We've all got one. And I don't mean funny, hyperactive...I mean bloodthirsty, vicious, insane characters. For some of us, it's our baddies. For me, unfortunately, it's my main character.
Altrius is screwed up. He seriously is. And for each and every draft I've written of Caged...he's gotten even worse. Sometimes, I feel like I'm writing a horror novel.
There's actually not much blood and gore in Caged (contrary to popular belief). And when there is, I don't really even describe it haha. I love to hurt Altrius, but I don't write something like: "The man's arm exploded; blood and muscles slithered down onto the ground to land in a messy puddle."
No. Just...no. (Sorry if I made someone throw up. I have an, erm, active imagination. In other words, I have fantasies about my characters being gravely injured and/or dying.)
So...I'm going to go write more of Caged now...

Cori: Hunger Games.

It was amazing. I saw it on Sunday. Alas, Ashton (and possibly some more of you guys) have not yet seen it, so I can't rant on about HOW IT WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME.
So, instead, I'll talk about Caged.
I'm rewriting a scene at the moment; before, it had taken place at a grocery store and had been completely different. Then I looked at it closely, and started thinking, Does this part really have anything to do with the plot? Does it drive it forward in any way? Does it even contribute to a subplot?
No, nada, zilch. It had NOTHING to do with the plot, whatsoever. So now I'm replacing it with something that will build Altrius's character a little bit more, as well as Mirabelle's. It even brushes upon the history of my world, and how the mutated people called the 'Lost' came to be. I'm very proud of it so far.
It also gave me a good idea.
You know, it's kind of funny - although I hate vampires (well, okay, I love them...but not the Turdlight--er, Twilight--version of them), Altrius actually shares a lot of powers/etc with them. Demons even have a taste for blood, and at one point in Caged he actually bites Mirabelle on the shoulder when he panics.
I'm looking forward to that scene. xD

Nat: Hello, ladies!

Hi girls.

So I'm aware that the SAAWAKM contest thingy (still doesn't have a cool name..) ended 3 days ago. I've just been incredibly busy (and will remain busy for about the next 5 months haha) but I promise I'll find time to add up the points in the next week or so. Still don't know what the prize will be. Ideas?

In other news: who has seen The Hunger Games? I haven't, so no movie spoilers, please! I'm going on Tuesday with my friends, and I'm soooo excited!

Anyway, hope to hear from you all soon.

I miss you all,
Ashton

Cori: Oops.

I've been completely forgetting to post. Too late now though, huh? The contest thingiemajig is over now. And I finished with exactly 20 points, so that's not that bad...I'm praying that I won xD! I never win at anything (I'm serious. I have never won a board game).
Caged is actually coming along nicely. I've been editing a bunch though; some of the scenes in it, I found, were written horribly...And so now I'm rewriting them. I'm actually sort of enjoying it. Hahaha.

Nicole: Time for more excuses!

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry I haven't posted in so long. Long story short, I've started my last year of school and I hardly have time to think, let alone post here. And I haven't had time to write or read, which actually makes me really sad.

I did read The Hunger Games though which I really loved, and I went and saw the movie at midnight the other night which I was a little disappointed with, but it was still great though.

I'm also really excited though because I've gotten a new idea for a story, which is something that hasn't happened in a longgg time. So, I'm going to get started on it now and if I actually follow through with it then I'll post here again soon! xxx

Heather & Kas: Part 2: Also To Be Named.

Just over a year ago, Kas and I posted an excerpt from Part 1 of Silver. Finally, after a massive shitload of editing (aren't I eloquent?) we have an excerpt from Part 2 to share with all you lovely ladies, before we dive head first into Silver Part 3 (the best end to a book in history, and no, I'm not bias at alllll, hehehe...).

First, if you've forgotten about Silver, which we would not blame you for, it has been a while, here is the really old blurb-y thing:

Silver Roric is not a spy. At least, not yet. Thrust into a mission that if failed could cost her people the war that has been fought for centuries, she is anything but prepared. Kidnapped by the cruel daemon race, and trapped in a castle where she is nothing more than a prisoner of war, Silver must act as the princess she was taken in place of.

With her sole goal to gather information to be sent to the capital, and gain the trust of as many daemons as she can; Silver’s life is not going as planned. With the kings nephew, the mysterious Sebastian, impervious to her every move and an entire castle out to get her, even the most simplistic mission can seem impossible.

Then Grint comes, a dark human with an even darker past, he is prepared to bring Silver back to the Domanean rebellion; for a price. Silver is once more thrust into an entirely new mission, except this one involves bringing down two kingdoms… From the inside out.

And here is a link to the excerpt from Part 1, to refresh your memories.

And finally, once you are on top of the whole Silver thing, we give you the excerpt!

Also, the first paragraph is a little iffy, but it's more to introduce the council to you guys, since you don't know who's on it or anything, obviously, and haven't read previous scenes with them.

Excerpt:

The council is in session. From my vantage point, I can see Leo at the center of the raised oak table. He is flanked by Karina and Julian, whose eyes bore into the man brought before them. Two of the empty seats from my first encounter with the council have been filled. A young woman with bright red hair sits next to a boy, his own blond hair seemingly windswept despite being underground. The seat beside Grint remains empty. They all watch intently as a man I recognize as one of the many messengers of the resistance, characterized with the dark red sash across his day clothes, lists off the captured man’s crimes.

Their faces are all the same as they glare, stern faced and proud, at the man shackled and kneeling in front of them. The messenger finishes his spiel and they begin to address their captive. My ears strain to hear what is being said, but their words are muffled through the glass. Julian’s face is flushed with anger and his hazel eyes narrow as he speaks. The prisoner doesn’t move or shy away from the harsh words thrown at him, nor does he defend himself against them. His shirt is gone and I can see dark red welts on his back and biceps, oozing blood. Whip marks. A cool breeze drifts into the cavern from above and dances across the back of my tunic, grazing my own ugly scars. The guards behind him watch maliciously, and I realize that this will not be the end of his pain.

I lean down and press my ear against the cool glass in attempt to listen in on the council.

“He has too much information. We must retrieve it.”  Karina is talking and I know if I could see her, her brown eyes would be glinting furiously, a searing glare on her pinched face. “We cannot kill him,” She pauses and the silence in the room is suddenly terrifying. Have they heard my heart pounding? My sharp intakes of air? I expect them to look up at any moment or call out my name. “Not yet, at least.” She finishes.

Grint’s familiar voice follows hers as protests fill the air. “She’s right.” The reluctance in his words shows the heaviness his decision holds. “We need to interrogate him.” I hear a chair scrape back, and angry mutterings sound below me. I look down into the room to see Grint walking to the bound man, before pressing my ear once more into the window. “Why are you here?”

When no answer is forthcoming, Grint repeats the question. It is louder and angrier the second time, the snarl in his words echoing throughout the room.

The answering voice is quiet and undistinguishable, but his words still manage to reach my ears. “I am not here to cause you any harm.” A derisive snort sounds below and I frown, still uncomprehending. How can one man harm us when we out number him by the thousands? He’d be dead before he even escaped the building.

“The longer we keep him alive, the more likely he is to escape.” Julian sighs, and I am certain that stress lines decorate his otherworldly face. His hands are surely playing with the long blond hair bound against his neck, the tell-tale sign of his fatigue. “It has been done before. He is too much of a risk. Were he to reveal our location to-”

“Do you really have such little faith in our men, Julian?” Karina interrupts him. “Have you forgotten the pain he has caused us? Every man here has felt the harsh sting of this boy’s actions upon their backs. He would not escape, no matter his royal standing.”

My eyes snap to the boy as her words register. His unkempt black hair, having been unfamiliar just moments ago, now forces the breath from my lungs. I muffle a cry when he lifts his face to stare defiantly at the council. He tries to look fearless, but a strong resolve glitters in his dark eyes. He doesn’t say a single word against them and I want to strangle him. He can’t die. I won’t let him. My hands start to shake.

I pull back, desperation searing through me, and notice the open latch on the window. Without a second thought I pull it upward, barely hearing the loud screeching noise of the rusted metal as it opens. Every pair of eyes is on me now. The shock and anger that fills Grint’s gaze almost burns my skin and I force myself to look away. What consequences will he face for this? I am his responsibility, after all.

Swinging my legs into the opening, I take a deep breath and shove myself off the edge, aiming for the table just slightly in front of me. The whoosh of air and distant thud of my feet upon the council table follow, and it takes a long moment for me to gather my bearings and my breath. At the far end of the council room, I see the guards inch forward, hands on their weapons. A throat clears behind me and they halt; their expressions are hesitant. My feet stumble forward on the firm oak.

A sharp pain shoots up my left leg, but I ignore it as I swivel around to face the council. Karina is standing on the floor beside the table, her overturned chair in pieces behind her. Her eyes hold no mercy. “You can’t kill him.” I say.

From further down the table Julian scoffs. “And why is that?”

I glance at Sebastian and the emotions raging in his eyes shock me. “He doesn’t deserve to die.” I tell them simply. “He has made many mistakes, but he is a good person.”

Leo stands, raising a hand to silence me. “He has stolen you from your home and kept you as his prisoner simply because of your blood. And yet you defend him?”

“I do.” I say.

I see Grint move across the room. He’s angry; angrier than I’ve ever seen him. He is in front of me in seconds, grabbing my arm and pulling me from the table. His grip is tight as he spins me to face Sebastian. His hands rip the back of my tunic up, exposing my scars. “Do you see what he did to her?” He says to the council.  He leans down to my ear, but he doesn’t lower his voice. “Do you not remember the state you were in when I came for you?” I swallow, but he doesn’t let go, “You were broken. He broke you.” His voice is filled with betrayal.

I glare at the wall. “He didn’t do this to me.” Tearing my arm from his grip, I pull the loose fabric back down. “He tried to save me.” I can’t help but look to Sebastian. “He doesn’t have the freedom you think he does.”

“How quaint,” Karina sneers. “She’s in love with the precious prince.” Her muddy eyes are full of hate as she spits on the floor near my feet. “She’s probably been under his influence this entire time.”

I look to Grint, my eyes blazing. “He saved your life once.” The council members look to Grint for affirmation. “He could have let us die that night, but he didn’t. Why?”

“Why don’t we ask him?” Leo says from his seat, his voice eerily calm.

Everyone looks to Sebastian, their glares striking him like knives. His gaze meets mine briefly, before returning once more to the floor. He opens his mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. I want to go to him. To tell him everything will be alright, but I’m not sure if it will.

“I-” he starts hesitantly, “I wanted her to be safe.” My breath hitches in my throat. I feel Grint stiffen beside me, a low growl emanating from his throat.

“Why did you come here?” Grint asks through gritted teeth.

Sebastian meets his glare for the first time. “I needed to be sure.”

Grint takes a step towards him. “Sure of what?”

“That I was safe.” I finish, realizing the truth of my words only as I say them.

The suspicion in the air is almost palpable. “He,” Leo nods to Sebastian, “will be held in the prison.  Five armed guards are to stand watch around his cell at all hours of the day. We will interrogate him and gain whatever information we can. His fate will be decided at another time,” his cool eyes fall on me as he speaks his last words, “by the council only.”

I hope you liked it! If you have question, well, considering this is mid-novel... third-novel?, feel free to ask, and please, please, please, give us your opinion. :)

Heather Returns.

Again.
So, it's been a while, huh?
Sorry ladies!
But... Kas and I should be posting our excerpt super soon. :D We're editing now.
So... what's new?
It would appear my friend had her purse, and fairly expensive e-reader stolen today, though hopefully it's just misplaced.
Uh... It's Saint Patty's day, so I hope you're all in green. :D
I can't wait to write part three in Silver, and... Sigh, it's back to school on Monday.
How've you all been?

Cori: Pink salt!

We got to mess with toxic, and highly corrosive, chemicals in science class today. Because we're making salt.
Pink salt.
It was actually pretty boring, my group managed to completely ruin ours until Mr. Darling dumped a bunch of acid into it to neutralize the base (Jac isn't allowed to touch the chemicals anymore), and I fell asleep. I also almost fell off of my stool.

We also spent at least ten minutes convincing a girl in our class that the salt was not safe to eat.

Tessa: "So you can't...eat it?"
Mr. Darling: "Nope."
Tessa: "So like...you can't eat it?"
Mr. Darling: "Well...It's poisonous, and you would die..."
Tessa: "I don't get it."
Mr. Darling: "It's toxic. Harmful. If you ate it, you would die. You would stop breathing. Your heart would stop. You wouldn't exist anymore."
Tessa: "So you can't eat it?"
The girl next to me: "I wish she would just eat the salt already..."

I had an interesting day. I also had to sit in the cafeteria/auditorium for about three hours, with my friend Jennifer. (The sophmores were having their OGT testings today.) We had fun, pretending that we were the hosts of nature TV shows and going, "There is Shelby, in her natural habitat...Oh? What is this? She is sucking her thumb!"
Me: "Of course she is, you silly little American! When a Shelby sucks her thumb, it means that she is attracting mates to imitate the movements on!"
Jennifer: "Ew."

Heh. =D

Nat: Is writing again!!!

It's true. My inspiration is back, I've been writing close to 1000 words a day, and part one of my story is nearly complete! XD

Kas and Heather, I can't wait to read some of Silver. I've been waiting far too long. ;)

There are 9 days left in the SAAWAKM contest, so you all better get posting/commenting. I still haven't decided on the prize..let me know if you have any ideas for that.

Anyway, it's finally starting to look like spring here, so I'm gonna go spend some time outside before it snows again.

Talk to you all soon. :P

Kamie: Hm... seems like I haven't been posting.

So, I haven't had a lot to say recently... and I apologize for that. I miss the vlogs, though we don't have any more topics recently... Is Kas the only one making them up? And are they only for writing? I was just wondering! :D I've still been into my obsessions, however I've added apps on my iPhone to my list. I love Temple Run, Penguin Wings, Bakery Story, Tiny Tower, MyTown2, DragonVale, Design Home, Draw Something, Unblock Me, Scramble Free, Nyan Space Adventures, CliffDiving, Angry Birds and more! :D I am a video game addict not just with apps and am thinking about getting the PS Vita... What do ya'll think? As for writing, it's been average for me lately. I'm hoping to do some writing tonight. Cori's never online to work on To The Countdown. I really want to work on it, but oh well. Maybe I'll convince her to text me and we'll start planning. Hm... what else.... I'm still writing with my friend Rachel and that's going alright, however it's not coming along very quickly. I realize I'm not the best at writing alone, however I don't have a lot of friends who like to write like I do! xD Oh well! I'll get by... hm... Thanks for the comments on the What Makes You Beautiful page. :D It means a lot to me and I'm planning on doing some soon! xD Cori I'll text you now! I'm going to be heading up north in a bit so I'll be online when we get to where we're going... Um... Talent show's coming up, am excited yet not. I'm excited for the songs I'm hoping to do with my friends however they're not picking a concrete song... Sigh. What else to say... I'm sure there's other stuff on my mind I'd like to say but none are coming out! I guess I'll post again later. Maybe I'll add pictures or videos on here so that you guys can see what's going on! :D

Lots of Love!

Cori: Mary Sues.

Yesterday, I was actually sort of worried that Altrius was a Mary Sue. It was late at night and I was sleep deprived, and freaking out about it.
So, today, I've been looking up every single Mary Sue test known to man. And guess what he scored on the most famous one?
Minus one.
That means he's an extreme anti-Sue.
And he's pretty much nothing like me, so I guess that counts for something.
So what about YOU? Have you guys ever gotten worried that your beloved main character was a Mary Sue?

Kas & Heather: Part 2.

Heather & Kas

Hey folks, it's been awhile, huh? Well... I'll definitely be posting more, ande Kas likely will too... because, drum roll please, Part 2 of Silver is finally complete. And unedited, but, you know. Complete. Complete. Complete. Yeah. And PART THREE IS SO FLIPPING EXCITING I CANNOT WAIT ! AHHHHHH !

Yep. what she said. We actually finished part 2 a few days ago... but we just got around to color coding part 3 and everything so we thought we'd post. :) Part three has the most scenes out of all our parts, so we're not that close to being done, but this is really exciting because this means we only have one part left to write before we're done! We'll except for editing, of course, but i'm choosing to not notice that part until i have to. :D

Kas's thoughts on editing have left me absolutely terrified, and I know if I think about it I will end up in a very, very, very dark place, so I've chosen to overlook it as long as possible. That is to say, until Kas forces it down my throat. Part 2 was our smallest section, but also the dullest (not to call it dull, but it doesn't have kidnappings, [as many] dudes that are more than just hateful, and no massive battles), section. But part three is all, 'Yay-go-me-I-have-action-action-action-yeah-yeah-yeah!'

So, we've decided to edit the shit out of our mutual favourite scene in part 2 (whenever we manage to pick one...) edit the crap out of it tonight, and then post it for you to all bask is it's never-ending glory. Not to toot my own horn, but... toot toot?

Haha. Yeah, i have some plans for editing. Big plans. Plans that might be a little extreme... Oh well. Lets just say we mihgt be in very grumpy moods throughout the editing process. :D

Well, Heather has gone to dinner now, so I guess I'll have to wait for her to come back so we can pick the scene and edit it for you guys. :)

Anyways, Part 3 looks to be like the most fun part yet, and we're planning on working on it a lot more this time. Part 2 took us a while to make it through. Hopefully we can be into the editing process by the start of  summer!

Well, I guess we'll talk to you guys later!

-Kas & Heather

Cori: Lesson Learned.

You know, after the conversation that I eavesdropped on a few months ago (EYEEEE CONTACTTTTT...), you would have thought that I had learned my lesson.
Unfortunately, it seems that I haven't.
I just couldn't help but listen in on another conversation today...

One girl was going, "I've been raped by like, five guys now."
Her friend: "That is SO awesome."
Me: O.o
First girl: "At the pool, they like sticking their hands down my pants. It feels SO GOOD."
Me: *gagging*
My Thoughts: Honey, that's not rape. That's called whoring.

Anyway...Enough about me failing to learn my lesson originally. I have writer's block again - but only for Skin Deep. I'm doing just fine with Caged right now xD! Sorry, Ned.

I was actually reading old posts today. After a lot of searching, I found the very first one I wrote and OH MY GOD I WAS SO ANNOYING. I'm serious. It sort of disgusted me, actually. I wanted to throw MYSELF out a window. >_<

Cori: Sharpie is not lipstain.

Don't try it. Trust me.
Okay, so here's the backstory of that (I did this about a year ago):
My friend Beth likes makeup. I think it's okay. We went to the nearest gasstation, and were looking at Sharpies. Because Sharpies are pretty.

Beth: "Hey...don't these kinda look like those lipstain markers?"
Me: "Yeah, they sort of do. Why?"
Beth: "I heard those things cost a lot of money..."
Me: "...Well, then Sharpie must work as well as them. And, it would be permanent."

So, we bought some Sharpies - a pretty red one, and a pretty pink one - and took them back to Beth's house.
We colored in our lips, and admired ourselves in the mirror.
Then it started burning.

HOLY FREAKING GOD, DID IT START BURNING!

We both started screaming hysterically, trying to rub it off with some toilet paper, but...well...Sharpie is called permanent for a reason.

The Moral Of The Story: Although some stuff LOOKS like makeup, it doesn't mean that it is.

The Bluntt Truth

Hellohello pretty peoples.
I'm writing a book!
"What is this?" You may ask, "Emilie is Writing?"
And the answer is YES. I am.
But its even cooler then that!
My sister and I were sitting at home the other day and she was like,
"Ohmygod, Emilie, I know what we're gonna do today!"
So Obviously, I was like "There's a hundred and four days, of summer vacation, and school comes along just to end it!"
Then she was like,
"Emilie, stop singing the Phineas and Ferb theme song, I have an idea!"
So I was like,
"Alright... what?"
And she was like,
"What if we both write, the SAME BOOK."
Then I was like,
"You mean TOGETHER!?" Thinking: What is this madness?!
and she was like,
"No... like... not together!"
SO basically to sum it all up we're doing this very strange experiment where we both came up with a fully formulated idea, we came up with character names, and a secret for each character, and now we are writing them.
Separately.
It's SO interesting to read the two different writing styles.
We have a BLOG for it, and a summary, and two different covers. Haha.

Here is my book cover with the Summary.

After a storm that destroys most of Rytton City, four enemy schools are forced to be one.
Cora Blunttly, a young photographer and owner of the cities most popular blog, 'The Bluntt Truth,' and her friends from Little Stone school of the Arts are forced to join Rose Petal Academy and Champers Academy in the neighbouring public school Rytton Heights.
After taking a few pictures that some would rather have not been taken, Cora is pulled into a world of secrets she never expected. It seems that everyone has a secret, and Cora soon becomes the keeper of them all.
It turns out forcing kids together that really would prefer staying apart is not the City of Rytton's best idea, and could turn out to be disastrous.

Cori is thanking God.

Why? Because a few days ago (was it really such a long time ago?!), I switched over to Figment and did that mergy thingy, where I can send my inky stuff over to figgy. So now Caged is there, and it has all of my comments on it. x)
I am overjoyed. And I'm hoping that Figment is as cool as Inkpop was (I already miss it).
Also, some more good news...for Ned. I am writing chapter one of Skin Deep again! Haha. I hope you're happy about that, and I'm hoping that it'll be satisfactory...I'm not too sure, as of now.
By the way, guys: from all my posting, commenting, reviewing and posting (on OSAAWAKMS), I now have...lemme see here...THIRTEEN POINTS!
I am so totally winning this contest thing. =D
Well, bye! I love you all! <3
